So... I'm sitting here at my desk, MacBook Air in front of me. What about my iMac? Well...

A while back, when I first mentioned I was getting the damned thing, the first thing I got from people online was pretty much "lulz, you bought overpriced hardware". Effectively instant hate because I bought a Mac. However, I got it for $130 with free shipping. Overpriced my ass.

Compare that to getting parts for the Dell XPS tower I have, with the need for a new power supply, a new GPU, a USB3 card (especially since another USB port broke), new hard drive, and a new monitor... That's pretty much $400 minimum for quality parts. And this is to upgrade a Core2Quad to be remotely decent with modern software.

However, that sort of bullshit attitude did manage to nag at me in the back of my mind. So... I went to install Windows on it. I installed Windows, but... Sildrae is gaming online. I can't do a goddammed thing with this computer until I update it, and Windows Update doesn't throttle download speeds. If this were MacOS, I'd already be able to get started doing shit with it.

What am I going to do about it? I'm going out to the shed and fetching my Dell XPS tower until I can spend the 5+ hours updating Windows 7 on the iMac... Or maybe I'll just keep eveything to the Dell. I don't know yet.

Regardless, this is why this fuckwad attitude of "lul apple" really needs a nice trout-slap. One hard enough to draw blood.

 ... ARRRGGGHHH!

Just when the night couldn't get better, the drive in my Dell XPS comes up as dying (well, "caution") in CrystalDiskInfo. So, I made an image and changed out the drive.

... Oh right. Windows doesn't like restoring from an image if the image came from a drive larger than what it's restoring to. ... Lovely. And people take the piss out of Macs when their native backup images work across multiple devices. Just saying.

Then again, I can't fault Microsoft too much for that one. I mean, there were dumbasses that demanded Windows come without Windows Media Player, and used the EU courts to make them release such a thing (which didn't sell). Microsoft's been attacked for having a web browser, email client, and other things bundled with the OS (hint: so do Macs and Linux!), and only now that Windows 10 goes behind your back to change the default browser to Edge after each update does no one seem to want to launch a lawsuit... Good going!

So, what have I learned from my time with Windows and Mac OS? That Microsoft keeps getting fucked over by power users that really don't know what the fuck they're doing, and Mac OS has better native applications as a result. And most FOSS apps still can't hld a candle to most of them. 👍

Sorry LibreOffice, but that UI makes my eyes bleed no matter what OS I'm running it on. Likewise with you, Evolution. I'd say there's still Thunderbird, but with the way Mozilla is starting to turn to shit under Chris Beard, I'm not wholely sure that'll stay the case for much longer. And I'd say "Go with SeaMonkey", but web develeopers seem to only give a shit about Chrome, and they're completely ignorant to the fact that they're making IE6 version 2.0 as a result. So SeaMonkey gets the shaft regardless. 💁

Also, always make sure to keep backups of everything pidgenholed away. It's an invaluable skill.
