Apple Hate

Fun fact: I used to be one of those people. The people who will berate people for using hardware or software that they like that I don't. This was during the time when I was part of the Free Software movement, and let me tell you one thing: when you realize how horribly you've been treating people, it can hurt. And it should hurt.

You wanna know why it bothers me? Because people now do it to me as well:
"You didn't build your own? No wonder it's junk."
"Why're you buying that overpriced Mac shit?"
"Seriously? You're not using a GeForce 1080 in that thing?"
"lol Ryzen"

Seriously? I thought people would grow up, not regress to toddlers.

Now, like I said: I used to be like this. Then I realized just how toxic that was, and I stopped. In fact, after my mother died, I did something she taught me a long time ago: "Keep your mind open."

I got a Mac Mini. I tried it. I loved it.

And this is after Steve Jobs passed away, so no saying I was tricked by his "reality distortion field" (or "charisma and a genuine love of his products", as I see it). No, I genuinely found—and still find—the experience with these devices to be very enjoyable. It has the "pro" environment of Linux (it's a *NIX/BSD machine), and more user-friendly than Windows had been for a while. It was also fairly stable compared to what I was used to, and 7 was fairly stable on its own.

It was enough that I wanted a Mac laptop, despite the price. I managed to get a MacBook Air thanks to my uncle, and I still love it. Of course, I now have a used 2006 MacBook that's in need of repairs, and an iMac coming in that's going to be rather nice to have on my desk instead of the mess of wires I have now. Oh! And I have an iMac G3 that still works, and it's rather nice—although rather slow.

In all honesty, I find Apple products to be worth the price, but that's just me. I mean, I lust over the Touchbar MacBook Pro, and in some people's eyes, that makes me an idiot on its own. But that touchbar would be more useful to me than the function keys, especially since I can just set up a separate keyboard if I'm that desperate for those keys. Having an adaptive bar to adjust formatting in a word processor without moving my hands from the keyboard would be amazing. I don't really need a full touchscreen device, just that.

But most importantly of all, I actually gave macOS a try, rather than just hating it without even trying it. Most of the people I know who attack Mac users have never seriously given the OS a try. They...really don't have room to talk, you know?

Try it before you judge it. Open your mind a bit. You don't have to be a "Sheeple" to enjoy macOS, just as you don't have to be a "Microshill" to enjoy Windows, or a "Free Software Zealot" to enjoy Linux. You don't have to just like one OS. This isn't some war, even when some people try to make it out to be one.

I gave it a shot. I like all four major PC OSes (Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS) for various reason. Mobile is a different story, as I don't like Android (I own an HTC One and use it begrudgingly as my daily phone), but I did like Firefox OS and Windows Phone, and still like iOS.

Above all else: STOP WITH THE PERSONAL ATTACKS! It really makes you look sub-animal and unintelligent when you start bashing people for using what they like. Attack the platform if you want, but people should have the right to use what they like in peace.
