Well... I started a story last night. That's farther than I've gotten since everything went down in mid May. It's helped that I found a game to relax a bit with (Gunfire Reborn), and I have been relaxing for the first time since my grandfather passed away. I'm still not getting much sleep, but that may come as I start to get rid of some of this anxiety.

Thing is, I do think that moving back to using my MacBook helped as well. I hadn't realized how much maintaining a Linux install was weighing on my mind at any one time, but with something EoL'd like Mac 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), I don't really have to worry about it. There aren't any new updates, and really no new browsers, but that actually ends up helping me by getting rid of a lot of distractions while I'm working. YouTube and Wikipedia rabbit holes are far less likely, I'm not letting myself doomscroll on Twitter, and my dives into Macintosh Garden and Archive.org are much more rare.

I still have access to both local music, and Icecast/Shoutcast radio streams, so I've got things to listen to for tuning the world out when I need it. if I suddenly want to read, I've got access to ePub and PDF readers on the system, among other things. I also have access to some websites if I need to suddenly look things up, but I can easily keep the wifi off without causing problems.

Oh! There's also the regular backups with Time Machine, which I'll even be able to do over the network once my Mac Pro finally gets set up again later on. So losing data isn't on my mind. I can also use Git onOS X (yes, 10.6 has a version in MacPorts), which means using my Gitea server for backups as well. Something which gives me a bit of redundancy.

Hell, I'm not against Linux. It's just that it's a pain to do maintenance with most modern versions of it, and I don't enjoy it. I'd rather be using my system, not dealing with things breaking. That's the whole reason I don't use Windows 10 on my daily driver system.

So yeah... This is progress.
