So... Patreon is now suspending/banning hypnosis kink creators for "glorifying sexual violence"... I've said it before, and I'll say it many times more: If you don't own the property, don't rely on it.

Don't rely on Twitter.
Don't rely on Facebook.
Don't rely on Patreon.
Don't rely on Subscribestar.
Don't rely on Discord.
Don't rely on Telegram.
Don't rely on FurAffinity, Weasyl, InkBunny, SoFurry, Furrific, DeviantArt, et. al.

This sort of thing will happen at a moments notice, screwing you over completely. Even properties owned by friends or known good communities can have this happen, just due to their nature. It's not something that's easily avoidable.

If you're serious about making something into a career, put the work into it to protect yourself. Get a cheap domain name (I use Hover for mine), get a cheap VPS (Linode is extremely cheap), make a simple website (even if it's just using Wordpress), and have your own protected space where people can't easily tear you down over the stupidest reasons. I'm going to be doing this again very soon as well, because I'm not going to fall into that trap. I already run a Gopher server (gopher://gopher.prismdragon.net or via the Floodgap proxy), and I plan on making my content available there once I figure out the logistics behind doing so safely (there's no easy way to make a warning page for adult content).

For those who are seeing this and thinking "that's too much work", I feel for you. It really is a lot of work. But it's also the price of doing business safely in a world that's increasingly becoming hostile to anything it finds offensive. Having your own space, even on a hosted VPS, insures you have at least most of the protection you need from losing your livelihood. It's somewhere that you can post without too much worry, as the only two things that can tear you down at that point are the domain registrar, and the VPS host, and both of those are going to be fairly hesitant to take you down without very good reason.

Stay safe out there, creators.
