The battery finally arrived!
Aug. 14th, 2019 01:46 amSo... When I bought my new-old laptop, I made sure to order a battery with it. That was on July 25th, and the expected delivery date was Aug 1st. One week later, they bumped it to Aug 8th.
It arrived yesterday, on the 13th... Thanks FedEx.
Anyway, you wouldn't believe the difference having a new battery makes with this thing. Much like a MacBook, it pulls from that battery a bit when the power supply is being strained, and instead of throttling, it's now handling everything like a champ. I mean, I mostly keep it offline (I even physically removed the modem card to help with heat), but it has a few games on it (Age of Empires, AoEII, and AoEIII—with all expansions—to name a few). This thing handles them quite well, even with its older hardware, and I'm tempted to try Knights of the Old Republic on it, just to see how it handles that as well.
Oh! I also have spare hard drive caddies, and can swap drives in between boots if I want. The main 1TB HDD has Windows Vista x64 on it, but I also have a 250GB HDD with Windows XP x32 as well. That one's for older 16-bit games that can't deal with, since it has WoW64 (Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit) instead of the original WoW32 (Windows 16-bit on Windows 32-bit) system needed for them. You can't even install some games on x64 because of that, such as the 3D-Ultra Pinball series from the Windows 95 days.
So yeah... I am happy!
