The new-old iMac
Dec. 9th, 2017 11:11 amSo, I've had...some chances to use the new iMac, in-between trying to get it as speedy as possible on Yosemite (and now El Capitan). And I really like it. Like... I know it's not the fastest machine out there, but it stays cooler than my Mac Mini, and the display along makes up for the speed difference in my book.
For having only a 2 GHz Core2Duo, nVidia GeForce 9400 (256 MB), and 8GB of PC3-8500, it runs perfectly well for my needs. iWork '09 and Scrivener 2 are fine. iMovie and Garageband run well enough. Safari runs well enough to watch videos and such. I can use Sublime Text on it. XCode runs fine on it.
For an all-in-one desktop form 2009, it's perfectly acceptable for my needs. And having a beautiful 20 inch display at 1680x1050 is such a plus for my eyes, especially compated to the 1360x768 TV I was using prior with my Windows machine.
In fact, the only things missing from it are Bluetooth and an SSD, but those I can add pretty damned easily, and I plan on doing so at some point in the future.
Overall, this thing is nice, and I'm really happy I have it on my desk.
